The ParaQuad Leadership, Mentoring and Peer Support Kit The Paraplegic & Quadriplegic Association of Tasmania Inc. is pleased to advise that the Department of Health & Human Services - Community Support Grants Levy project to produce the ‘Leadership, Mentoring & Peer Support Kit’ to assist people with physical disabilities to support and be supported by mentors and their peers is now complete and the 'Mentoring and Leadership Kit' has five booklets and a poster. The Kit offers people with physical disability information on mentoring, leadership, peer support and how to self assess. Whilst this Kit was developed initially for people with physical disability the Association believes that the Kit could be suitable for other specific groups within the community. Workshops, on use of the kit, will be held in April in Glenorchy, Devonport and Launceston. Any person, with a physical disability, wishing to attend can email ParaQuad for further details. ParaQuad believes that the workshops will encourage people, who have a physical disability, to become leaders, mentors and offer peer support to others who require their support. When training is complete the Association will be hoping that people will become mentors and assist other people to enhance their lives by utilising the Kit. If the workshops are well supported the Association will consider holding further leadership courses to help people to develop skills further to encourage their participation on agency and government committees. This project is exciting and innovative and the Association believes it will assist people with physical disabilities who need peer support from time to time an opportunity to work towards their own goals with the assistance of a mentor. ParaQuad is investigating how best to allow access to the Kit via internet. The Kit cost is $25 inc. GST plus $5 for postage & handling and is available from the ParaQuad Office. The Kit contains the following: A. Five Mentoring and Leadership booklets
B. 1 Poster – MTR-I Team Roles Which team roles are you going to perform today?
Each booklet is a lesson in itself or you can use all booklets together. The Kit may be useful for any person wishing to improve their skills of leadership and mentoring. The authors of the Kit are R Bunn & J Stanzel. The ISBN no. is: ISBN 0-646-41703-7 and is owned by the Paraquad Association of Tasmania Inc. The kit was printed in July 2001. The cover of the Kit and Booklets honour the astounding adventurer Nick Morozoff, Sydney, Australia. Nick is a T12 paraplegic, injured 22 years ago and who has a profound love of sport.
