The news that Dylan Alcott OAM has been named Australian of the Year for 2022 is incredibly significant, for Dylan himself, and for all Australians.
ParaQuad Tasmania congratulates Dylan and looks forward to supporting his work to increase awareness of the issues facing people with disability.
“We hope his appointment will also mean many more Australians, those without disability, see everyone as a person whose contribution to society is equal and meaningful,” said Carmel Clark, CEO of ParaQuad Tasmania.
ParaQuad Tasmania supports Mr Alcott’s call to increase funding through the NDIS.
“This also applies to people who acquire a disability over the age of 65, who are currently not eligible to become an NDIS participant,” Ms Clark added.
The organisation also agrees with Mr Alcott’s desire to see an increase in the number of people with disability in employment.
“It’s simply unacceptable that in 2022, people with disability are twice as likely to be unemployed as people without,” Ms Clark said.
Dylan Alcott has already achieved so much, as an advocate for people with disability and a role model for many young people with disability.
ParaQuad Tasmania looks forward to seeing the many other positive changes that he can bring to our society as Australian of the Year.
